The Foundation can assist NPOs in efforts to conduct conferences, meetings, retreats and fund-raising events by facilitating the availability of appropriate venues for such uses and providing technical services for them. The extensive experience of Foundation personnel in the hospitality and entertainment business can be made available for assistance in planning, coordinating and hosting a wide range of events. Examples include workshops, retreats, dinners and conferences for purposes such as staff training, board retreats, friend-raising and fund-raising. Foundation personnel may also be available to manage the logistics for using these venues and provide the technology services needed for presentations and subsequent online archives for future use.
In some circumstances, Foundation Trustees may facilitate the use of attractive venues available through them, on a pro bono basis, for special events. Examples of such venues include the Hawkridge Ranch and Vineyard in Carmel Valley, CA and the Bougainvillea Estate in the Palm Springs area. The opportunity offered by the Foundation to combine services of its personnel in planning and conducting such events with attractive locations and potential funding for them is unique resource for NPOs.
Hawkridge Ranch and Vineyard is located on sixty acres high on a ridge overlooking the village of Carmel Valley, CA. The ranch was established in the 1930’s and from 1977 to 2007 was the private retreat of entertainer and entrepreneur Merv Griffin. Among his guests at the ranch were Cary Grant, Lucille Ball, Clint Eastwood, Ethel Kennedy and numerous other celebrities.
The ranch consists of a main house, multiple guest houses, a 2200 sq. ft. entertainment building with large deck overlooking a small vineyard that produces approximately 250-300 cases of wines annually. Other features of the ranch include an approximately 800 year old giant live oak with a large deck with round table seating 12, olive groves and fields of lavender. Babydoll sheep and alpacas graze on the property.
In recent years the ranch has been the site of charity dinners on the lawn for 150 guests as well as board retreats and reunion events. Although the Ranch was recently sold by our Trustees, we remain on excellent terms with the new owner and believe it may be available for charitable events.
The Bougainvillea Estate consists of five manicured acres surrounded by a stone wall fence. Entrance to the estate is through a large wrought iron gate opening to a 400-foot tree-lined driveway past an event lawn and one-acre lake, then passing through a second set of gates to an inner fountain courtyard surrounded by the main house, a four car garage and the first guest house. Also included are two additional guest houses, a 3000 sq. ft. entertainment building and 18 seat theater. The property features numerous date and fan palms and citrus trees. The event lawn can accommodate 150-250 guest events and the entire estate is available for charitable events.
The property is located one-half mile from the polo fields of the Empire and Eldorado Polo Clubs, as well as the site of the popular Coachella and Stagecoach Music Festivals, and is one mile from the La Quinta Resort and two miles from PGA West. About 25 minutes to Palm Springs Airport, 15 minutes to Palm Desert shopping and entertainment.
The Porchlight Grille is a 5000 sq. ft. tavern and grille located in Las Vegas at the intersection of W. Desert Inn Road and Durango Drive. Its non-smoking restaurant is separate from the tavern and seats up to 70. It has served as the venue for business meetings, lunches, dinners and receptions as well as cultural events and charity fund-raisers. www.porchlightgrille.com
